A Preliminary Treatise on the Style of the Swedish Male A report filed from the field

The Swedish male, while obviously related to others of its type, looks very different than other nationalities’ specimens. Generally speaking, the species might be described as taller, thinner, and blonder than those found in other parts of the world. Its physical dimensions are, however, only one factor that distinguishes the Swedish male from its foreign counterparts.

As with many other species, the Swedish male clothes itself in such a way as to send signals to its community. Clothing may indicate status, a particular in-group identity, even professional aspirations. It may also play an important role in attracting and securing a mate.

The clothing of the Swedish male fluctuates seasonally, increasing in bulk during winter months and decreasing during summer months, following a prolonged shedding period in the spring. During spring and summer months, a male may

be found in red pants or shirts the color of Easter eggs. Shorts may assume any length, from “I-can-see-your-thighs” short, to a comfort zone above and below the knee, to the mid-shin man-capris.

A few constants endure throughout the year, however, including a proclivity for snugly fitting pants, V-neck shirts, and cardigans. The Swedish male clearly finds it important to accessorize himself, as necklaces, bracelets, and man-purses are common. More permanent decoration in the form of tattoos is also not uncommon.

As the Swedish male ages, it accrues various symbols of its wisdom and experience. Distinctive eyewear is a key component in signaling to others one’s age and prestige. Depending on individual preferences, signs of physical aging Discount Ferragamo Belts may be mitigated by chemical interventions (such as hair dye or anti-wrinkle cream) or cultivated as further proof of one’s gravitas.

The most distinctive element of the Swedish male’s appearance, however, is the specimen’s hair style. While the style itself might vary from individual to individual, the crucial factor is that it is styled. The hair of the Swedish male is parted, sculpted, shaped, and waxed, held into place by product. Grooming processes are in place. Leave-in conditioners may be used. Time is spent considering the most advantageous placement of part lines.

In many parts of the world, such attention to form rather than function would indicate an undesirable lack of masculinity. Here, however, it is simply a way of life.

      • Staying on Track When Life Changes Drastically A lot of changes have occurred in my life in the past two months.I quit my full-time job to become a freelance writer and healthy living blogger at Peanut Butter Fingers. Then my husband accepted a new job and we moved--into a hotel. We couldn’t find a house to rent in our new hometown right away, which led us to living in a hotel on weekdays and living at my parents’ house (two hours away) on the weekends.Needless to say, all of these big life changes affected my normal eating habits.I no longer had access to a real kitchen. No stove. No oven.In the beginning I was tempted to throw in the towel and rely solely on microwaveable meals to get me though the transitional time until we moved into our rental home. Three days of frozen burritos later, I felt lethargic and knew I needed to introduce fresh produce, whole grains and unprocessed foods back into my diet.I made an action plan. The first obstacle?Breakfast at the hotel’s complimentary breakfast buffet. My plan? Eat protein and whole grains. Instead of the sugar-laden scones, I opted for oatmeal with peanut butter and a sliced banana or scrambled eggs with whole wheat toast. Then came lunchtime. I made sure every lunch included vegetables and lean proteins. I quickly fell in love with arugula, feta cheese and watermelon salad drizzled with olive oil and found my energy returning, allowing me to plow through the rest of the day without feeling tired or grumpy. At dinner, my husband and I agreed not to rely on fast food or take out and made meals using frozen homemade vegetable lasagna that my mother made and sent with us to the hotel, along with side salads, snow peas, carrot sticks and bell pepper slices. Any vegetable we liked that didn’t require roasting or sautéing became game. Healthy sandwiches were a frequent favorite.Once I acknowledged that my eating habits needed work, my action plan and commitment to staying away from convenience foods in favor of wholesome meals made me feel better both physically and mentally.I knew I couldn’t use the big changes in my life as an excuse to neglect my commitment to healthy living and rededicated myself to finding healthy meals and snacks to get me through the day. And Iinstantly

"Our new winery is fantastic. It's small, but certainly roomier than my folk's hillside home where we'd been making wine since 1989," Judd said. "Now that we're on the Silverado Trail, I enjoy being more accessible for folks who want to visit us."As to their wines? The stars are the ultra-premium and lovingly hand-crafted Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Syrah and Petite Sirah that bear the Judd's Hill label. "A big part of our winemaking philosophy is to let the fruit be the showcase. Our style is to have wines with true varietal characteristics with just a nuance of the oak underlying it all. My music is another outlet for my artistic energy, a different way to express some creativity."To taste some of this creativity come alive in the bottle, a visit to that new winery is in order. • Poll: Does Your Body Image Change With Your Weight? We all know it’s very easy to develop a negative body image when we feel like our own bodies don’t match up very well with media images of the “perfect” body. Sometimes, even very minor imperfections can be the source of much dissatisfaction. And I imagine that most of us who set out to lose weight and/or improve our fitness are hoping that our body image will improve as our body changes. But is that what always happens? Does body image improve along with your BMI score?Apparently not for a lot of people, according to this article from MSNBC. Especially those who lose a lot of weight or those who have a history of losing and regaining weight several times. Most people who lose weight report more satisfaction with their bodies and what they can do, but this doesn't always translate into improved body image. For some, their "new" body never feels quite real, as if they're not sure the weight loss and increased fitness will last very long. Others literally can't "see" their bodies as they are now--they still see the "phantom fat" that used to be there. The linked article offers some information about why these problems may happen, but maybe the most important question here is what people can do when they find themselves still feeling uncomfortable in their own skin even after weight loss. When I think about my own body image issues, it seems like I have more than one body image floating around in my head. How I’m seeing my body at the moment depends a lot on what I’ve been doing recently. If I’m eating well and exercising regularly, I see myself in my mind’s eye as being relatively healthy and fit, and I see my body as “normal.” I’m not very self-conscious about my appearance, even though I know I’m a long ways from being thin or buff. I can put on my compression biking shorts, muffintop and all, and head out into the world without giving a second thought to what someone else might think about this fashion choice. But when I’m not eating well or exercising, this all changes pretty dramatically. I start seeing myself the way I used to when I was well over 125 pounds heavier. I get very self-conscious, don’t want anyone to look at me, and wouldn’t even think about wearing my bike shorts in public. I feel like my body is about as un-normal as you can get. If my weight goes up a couple pounds on the scale, these feelings and thoughts just get worse. So, it seems that losing all that weight didn’t entirely change my body image. It doesn’t take a lot to make those old feelings and thoughts about my body come roaring back to the surface again. But, fortunately, it also doesn’t take much to get myself back Best Quality Nike Zoom Lerdon 9 P.S Elite 9th IX Ninth LeBron Raymone James Men White Black War Boots into a more realistic and positive frame of mind—I just need to do something healthy for myself, whether it’s eating better, doing some exercise, or finding another way to de-stress about all this. For me, the best antidote to negative feelings about my body is to treat myself as if I respect and care about my physical self, even when I may not feel that way at the moment.Maybe someday I’ll get to the psychological roots of all those old feelings, and get rid of those demons once and for all. But if not, at least I know how to handle them when they do come up.What’s your story? Does how you feel about your body change according to your weight or clothing size? Has losing weight made a major difference in how you see yourself, or is it hard for you to see your body as it is now? What do you do to maintain a positive attitude toward yourself when those negative thoughts start coming up?

Fri, 02/27/2009Fri, 03/06/2009SIMI WINERY Steve ReederFrances Rivetti Internationally recognized winemaker Steve Reeder counts his blessings to be living and working in the heart of incomparable Alexander Valley. Having lived in numerous states across the U.S and its eastern seaboard, as well as in France, England and Germany, Reeder's frequent bi-coastal business trips make coming home to Sonoma County wine country all the sweeter."My first job in the wine industry back in 1978 was right here in the Alexander Valley," says Reeder, Winemaker and General Manager of Simi Winery since 2003. "I knew then that I had found my home." "Where else on this earth do we have such incredible diversity?" he asks. "From Sonoma County's organic green apples to fresh Dungeness crab from the sea, a region of rolling vines from which I can go from skiing to body surfing in a few short hours. Where ever I have been in the world, never once did I not say that I wanted to go www.saletopshoe.com home." A third-generation Californian, with a degree in Fermentation Sciences from the University of California at Davis, Reeder is quick to admit his belief that there are no secrets to great winemaking. "It's all in the details," he says, taking pride in the fact that he has always been willing to share these details. "A meticulous approach to the way that we grow and buy premium grapes, upgrading the vineyards, new barrels, quality, flavor, oak. These are the details of making great wine." As a winemaker who has accomplished securing the number one and two spots on Wine Spectator's prestigious Top 100 Wines Ralph Lauren Women Short of the Year list in 1999 and 2002 respectively in his former post for Chateau St. Jean's proprietary Bordeaux-varietal blend, Reeder is remarkably low-key in his self-promotion within the industry. "I consider myself a humble guy whose number one priority as winemaker for one of the great wineries of Sonoma County is to encourage continued growth in vineyard quality." By developing new thought patterns on root stock, clones, row orientation and precisely how best to grow grapes, Reeder strives to directly support employees and help them to develop their own winemaking careers. "I like to keep it simple," says Reeder, whose absolute favorite season in the vineyard starts two weeks before harvest. "It is then that I am able to shed my General Manager duties and become one hundred percent winemaker from sunrise to one in the morning." Reeder loves nothing more than walking the vineyards of Sonoma County, tasting fruit and deciding when to pick. "Scheduling every last load, it's a glorious time. Nirvana for around two whole months," says Reeder, whose outstanding wines include Russian River and Sonoma County Chardonnays, three distinctive Cabernet Sauvignon vintages, Sonoma County Merlot and Sauvignon Blanc.
